This is our favorite neighborhood spot for Japanese food and sushi, and we like to support local businesses. Lately we have been seated at the sushi bar and it's more adventurous for us since we normally order the same food with little variation on the rolls. Service is always excellent, fish is fresh, everyone is very attentive and we didn't feel rushed arriving during the last hour they were open. Street parking is easier, too.

4.5 stars overall This place is within a shopping center, easy to find, and wait isn't bad; they have a Yelp waitlist; and call your name when the table is ready. Interior is crowded, very corner of the Resturant has a table, so it leaves very little space for getting around etc. the food comes out very quickly, and it's delicious! The sushi is pretty costly; prepare to spend around $100 or more a person. I loved the chicken skewers, and their omakase was delicious as well. Overall nice sushi spot; it's loud inside so hard to have conversations etc but not too bad

Rantei Japanese Cuisine is a standout, possibly my favorite Japanese restaurant in the Bay Area. Their sashimi boxes, especially the Kaisen Don, are exceptional, offering fresh and flavorful selections. While there can be long waits, sometimes up to 2 hours, it's definitely worth it. Going during non-busy hours can help avoid the line. The service is generally quick, adding to the positive experience. Don't forget to try the fresh wasabi--it's a game-changer! **Highlights:** - **Service:** Quick and efficient - **Quality:** Exceptional sashimi boxes, particularly the Kaisen Don - **Atmosphere:** Cozy and inviting - **Price:** Reflective of the high quality **Tips:** Plan your visit during non-busy hours to avoid long waits. Be sure to get the fresh wasabi for an enhanced experience. The Kaisen Don is a must-try for sashimi lovers.

Gotta admit, the location felt a bit sketchy. However, upon walking into the restaurant, the atmosphere is quite inviting! The decor was nice to look at. Although I've never been to Japan, this is kinda what I would imagine little sushi restaurants to look like. We didn't make a reservation, so we did wait, but it was a pretty short wait. The place is actually quite spacious and can serve so many people. We started it out with takoyaki which was good, not great. I think I've had better elsewhere. We also ordered the soft shell crab appetizer! The crab was fried quite well, which it's crispy exterior and hot interior. The sauce wasn't my favorite, but the crab made up for it. We also order the hamachi carpaccio. A delicious appetizer! The hamachi was fresh and the sauce that it was doused in paired well with it. The micro greens also help add freshness and texture to the dish. Our entrees included unagi Don and sashimi deluxe. For the price, the quality of the fish was a major steal. The fish were very fresh and tender. They kept it simple with presentation, which was completely fine because the dish speaks for itself. The unagi Don had soft Japanese rice with grilled eel and nori on top. An indulgent way to end the meal. A wonderful experience and I'd definitely come back!
